Ascarate opened in 1958 and was the first solo project of George Hoffman, who moved to West Texas from New Jersey when his family bought a ranch. It has long been considered one of the toughest courses in El Paso.

This is a fairly long, desert-style course that winds through a residential subdivision with out-of-bounds lining narrow fairways on many holes. Some holes have slight elevation changes and can leave you with uneven lies.
